The math, written out

On a platform: net per month = rate × days × (1 − platform fee) − cost per rented day × days − fixed costs.

Booking direct: net per month = rate × days × (1 − card fee) − cost per rented day × days − fixed costs − direct-booking costs.

Margin per rented day = rate × (1 − fee) − cost per rented day. Break-even rental days = fixed costs (plus direct-booking costs when direct) ÷ margin per rented day.

Our free car rental skills for Claude and Codex do this for one car: they read every published rate for the same model in your city through the CarRentalList MCP server, place your rate in that range and lay out a rate card.

Questions

How do I calculate the profit of a rental car?

Net per month = daily rate × rented days × (1 − platform or card fee) − cost per rented day × rented days − fixed monthly costs. On your own site, also subtract what it costs to win direct bookings (ads, website, booking software). Break-even rental days = fixed costs ÷ (rate × (1 − fee) − cost per rented day).

What fee does Turo take from hosts?

It depends on the protection plan you choose as a host, and Turo changes its plans over time. Use the percentage shown for your plan in your Turo host dashboard; this calculator does not assume one.

What do exotic cars rent for per day?

Published daily rates differ by make and city. Across the companies we list, the median published Lamborghini rate is $1,290 a day (middle half $1,100 to $1,495, 651 cars at 124 companies). The table on this page has the other makes; the pricing guide breaks it down by state.

How many days a month does a rental car rent?

It varies a lot by car, city and season, so use your own numbers: count the days each car was out last month and last season. A business plan built on a borrowed utilization figure is the most common reason the numbers do not work out.

Turo or my own booking site?

A platform brings demand and takes a share of every booking; your own site keeps the full rate but you pay to win each renter and need your own commercial insurance and rental agreement. Many operators run both. Enter both fee rates and your direct-booking costs above to see where the line falls for your car.
